This was my Production 1 class's second project. My group shrunk from four to three people by the time we filmed this. We planend to film it over fall break--a four-day weekend. I told them I could film any day except Friday when my daughter was getting married. So of course they chose Friday to film.
Therefore I had nothiong to do with how the film was shot. The idea was to shoot the whole film in one continuous shot. They did that, getting multiple takes. But I didn't like any single take. I liked portions of many different takes, but the film wasn't shot to be edited like that. I was in a quandary.
I finally decided to edit the whole film with nothing but jump cuts--a technique which is becoming more popular these days because it seems to add more energy. I'm pleased with the results.
The dialog was completely unusable, so we had to dub the entire dialog in. None of the sound recorded on sight ended up in this film.
This is the only film we shot standard definition rather than high definition--and it shows!
